Bechuanaland People's Party

[Bechuanaland People's Party flag] by Ivan Sache, 6 Aug 1999

This flag has horizontal black-yellow-green stripes with a black star centered in the yellow stripe. "Political life is determined by legislative and presidential elections, which are both free and competitive. The first elections were held in 1965. The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) of Prime Minister Seretse Khama received 28 out of the 31 seats and its leader became President of the Republic. The three remaining seats were received by the People's Party (BPP)".  I suppose that Bechuanaland People's Party became Botswana People's Party when the name of the country changed after independence.
Source is Smith (1975), pp. 340-341 ("Symbols in politics"). Smith says that these are real flags and not only party emblems, which may differ in colours when used as emblem or in a flag.
